The Top 5 Reasons You Should Go See a Chiropractor

There are a number of things that can help you determine whether or not chiropractic care is right for you. Maybe you’ve tried other treatments with little to no success, or maybe you are looking for a preventative method of care rather than having to rely on reactive treatments. Another reason could be a desire to discover the underlying cause of your symptoms. Regardless of your reasoning, seeking chiropractic treatment is the first step in what could be an integral part of living your life to the fullest. The benefits of Chiropractic treatment are vast and can be felt throughout the body.

Reason #1: Chiropractic treatment begins with a thorough assessment to determine the cause of your symptoms.

Imagine that one morning you wake up with an ache or a pain somewhere in your body, so you reach for a Tylenol or an Advil to help manage your pain. You are able to then go about your day (mostly) as normal. Unfortunately, you wake up the next day and the ache/pain has returned. Do you continue to take pain medication every day for the rest of your life? Many people do.

Instead of simply masking your pain, the thorough assessment that you will go through at the beginning of your chiropractic care aims to not only discover the root cause of your symptoms, but to find a plan that targets the cause - hopefully, with no pain medication necessary! The assessment is comprehensive and includes a clear and concise medical history that you will discuss with your doctor, along with structural and functional tests, such as range of motion, x-rays if warranted, etc. These will all help determine the physiological reason behind your pain and dysfunction. Keep in mind that Chiropractors are thought of as spine experts, which we are, but we are also trained in all things musculoskeletal. That includes headache to toe ache ;)

Reason #2: Chiropractic treatment can help prevent and manage your pain.

There is a pretty good chance that if you’re reading this, you have experienced significant enough musculoskeletal pain that you are looking for a solution. There is also a pretty good chance that someone you know has also experienced similar issues. Many adults deal with recurring pain at some point in their lives, but you do not have to stay a part of that group any longer! Musculoskeletal pain can be managed with conservative care, and has been proven to aid in musculoskeletal pain disorders. First with manual therapy and then with a progressive exercise program to get back to feeling like yourself.

Reason #3: Injury rehabilitation can be done through chiropractic treatment.

Like many other chiropractors, I use exercise-based rehabilitation and passive modalities, hands on manual therapy, muscle work, joint mobilizations and shockwave therapy to treat both chronic pain and acute injury. The best results for health, especially injury rehabilitation are a combination of therapy and individualized stretches and exercises.

Reason #4: Chiropractic treatment can improve your overall body mechanics.

Over time, the evolution of the human body has changed the way we move. So many of us have to sit for hours on end at work, or we spend much of our free time too tired to do much other than sit on the couch. No judgement - we have all been there. Have you ever spent hours looking over your work, only to realize you were hunched over, or clenching your jaw, or leaning for hours on one side of your body? The unfortunate truth is that a sedentary lifestyle often leads to pain and discomfort. During the assessment your Chiropractor will ask you many lifestyle related questions as well as look at how your body moves to make sure that all of the aspects of daily habits and biomechanics are in line to help you feel and function better.

Reason #5: Chiropractic treatment can be an integral part of your overall health and wellness.

This is the point most near and dear to my heart. There are a number of reasons why someone might want to improve their overall health and wellness, such as being able to participate in the activities or hobbies that you love, and being able to spend quality time playing with your loved ones. Everyone has a different level of optimal performance, and chiropractic care can help you reach and maintain that level of wellness throughout your life. My approach to care is to get you to a place where you are well enough that you don’t have chronic pain telling you it is time to take care of yourself, because you already are!

Overall, the field of Chiropractic is diverse and includes many different specialties. We are also all very different in our values and our assessment and treatment priorities. I encourage you and everyone you know, if you are interested in treating pain and preventing pain even more importantly, to seek chiropractic care. You deserve to live your best life.
